LOS ANGELES — California is facing a Chihuahua crisis. There are so many Chihuahuas in the state’s shelters that some of the tiny dogs are being shipped to other states where they can find new homes.

Operation Chihuahua is underway. More than a dozen small dogs are being flown 2,200 miles from California to New York to find homes. The high-flying Chihuahuas left San Francisco, headed to New York, and land 5 hours later at JFK International Airport. Shelters in California have been overrun with Chihuahuas, putting them at risk for euthanasia.
